Terry Ronald Wakeley

Terry Ronald Wakeley, 77, of Grayling, passed away on May 9, 2021.

Terry was born in Grayling, Michigan on July 21, 1943 to the late Barton and Bonnie (Clise) Wakeley. Terry married the former Caroll Modica on March 9, 1987 in Grayling. Terry loved his family and enjoyed his family reunions. He would immediately begin planning the next reunion upon completion of the yearly event. Terry was known as a very giving man.

Terry had an absolute dedicated passion to his career as a MHSAA sports official. His favorite sport depended on which sport was currently in season. Terry was an inspiration to many in surrounding communities. He mentored future officials in the MHSAA Legacy program. Terry was a man of integrity and made sure games were administered in a fair manner. He received numerous awards over the years. He even loved the sports he was not officiating. Terry attended the MHSAA basketball finals and banquet every single year. The highlight of Terry's career was to be the recipient of the Vern Norris Award. He was also inducted into the BCAM Hall of Fame. Terry also loved refereeing his grandkids games, and at times there were 3 generations to 4 generations of Wakeley's on the field or court.

Terry was a very skilled woodworker, he built log cabin lamps and bird houses, and was an avid hunter. He attended Grayling Free Methodist Church.

Survived by his wife Caroll of 34 years. Children: Terry "Scott" (Michelle) Wakeley of Grayling; Kelly Robert (Jonell) Wakeley of Florida; Michael (Jana) Modica of Kingsley; Hilary Modica, of Grayling; and Samuel (Keenan) Modica of Kewadin. Terry was fondly referred to as "Poppy" by his grandchildren: Jacklynne (James); Macie (Dale); Kirstie (David); Terry "Scott", Jr. (Miranda); Bre`lynn (Keith); Caleb;Tyler; Kelly, Jr. (Kelsey); and Ella. He was also blessed with 10 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, 6 brothers, 5 sisters, and a granddaughter, Rachael Wakeley.

A Celebration of Terry's Life is scheduled for July 11, 2021, 1:00 PM, at The M.A.C., 310 5th St., Mio, MI 48647.
