Kim "Dale" Melroy

January 17, 1955 — February 23, 2023

Kim “Dale” Melroy passed away surrounded by family on February 23, 2023 at the age of 68 after courageously living with chronic kidney disease for 41 years, which included three kidney and a liver transplant. Dale was born to Clair and Eva Melroy in January of 1955, and was a lifelong resident of Grayling, graduating from Grayling High School and earning an Associate Degree from Lansing Community College.

Dale married Cheryl (Senske) in October of 1983. Dale and Cheryl were blessed to welcome their daughter Annie into their family in 1990. Dale loved being a husband to Cheryl, father to Annie and grandpa to Kennedy & Lance. They were the loves of his life.

For years Dale owned the local Amoco Gas Station in Grayling and later a Citgo Gas Station and Convenience store in Houghton Lake. He loved anything to do with cars and trucks. He later enjoyed being a course ranger at Forest Dunes.

With a deep love of the clear waters of Northern Michigan, Dale was at home with his life on Lake Margrethe and adventures canoeing on the AuSable River.

Dale enjoyed being a member of the Grayling Country club and playing golf, watching football while pestering his niece Jenna (Go Pack!) or comparing notes with Rich, deer camp at The Who’s Inn, lake living, boat rides, family vacation adventures, his family pets, and DONUTS. Dale loved to stop at Goodale’s for his morning coffee and donuts.

Dale’s love language was jokes, one liners and bantering with EVERYONE. Dale faced life with humor and lightheartedness despite his health challenges. His quick wit kept family and friends amused.

Dale is survived by his wife Cheryl, daughter Annie (Jordan), their children Kennedy & Lance, and an extended family of Senske in-laws, which Dale often called his outlaws: Frank & Bernadine Senske, Shelley (Tucker) , John (Sandy), Mary Ann (Kelly), and Jackie (Brian), 2 nieces, 3 nephews, their spouses and children, aunts and cousins across 2 states, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Dale is also survived by his cousin, John (Susan) McPhail, who was more like a brother, and John’s lovely daughters: Beth (Matt & Louis), Missy, and Amanda (Jamie &Adeline). The McPhail girls were shining lights in Dale’s life.

The family would like to thank Dale’s support network near and far especially Curt, Paul, Johnny, and Bill who provided spirit-brightening visits and outings. Also, the Grayling Godmothers and their spouses, Sr. Jean and Sr. Bonnie, Josh (Munson Home Care) and Munson Hospice of Grayling for their guidance and support.

A visitation will take place at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Grayling on Friday, March 3rd, 2023 at 10 am, with a Funeral Mass following at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Grayling Community Garden ( https://www.crawfordcoa.org/make-a-donation ) or the education funds for Kennedy and Lance Helsel at Ugift529.com. The code for Kennedy is P4J-W1R and the code for Lance is W9X-A52.
