William Charles Stenglein

October 5, 1926 — February 11, 2013

William C. Stenglein passed away peacefully on December 11, 2013 following a brief battle with cancer. With the guidance and assistance of the compassionate staff of Mercy Hospice of Grayling, MI his family was able to be with him and comfort him in his home during his final days. We know that he's with his parents, brothers and friends and he's now fishing for trout on a beautiful trout stream. Bill was born on October 5, 1926 to Walter and Helen (Bowman) Stenglein. He was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw, MI and was a proud veteran serving in the US Army Air Force in Africa during World War II. Following his discharge he attended Michigan State University and The University of Michigan. He married Ruth Voorhees on August 7, 1954. After completing his required apprenticeship with architectural firms in Saginaw, Bay City and Midland, MI he received his architectural certification and license on his first attempt in November, 1961. During his career he worked in architectural firms in mid-Michigan including working with Alden Dow in Midland, MI and owned his own practice in Frankenmuth, MI for many years. Besides his wife Ruth, he is survived by four sons Mark (Wendy) of Grandville, MI; Paul (Vicki) of Frankenmuth, MI; Dave (Anita) of Wooster, Ohio; and Andy (Paula) of Whitehall, MI; 15 grandchildren, Rachel, Rebecca, Eric, Jennifer, Amy, Jeff, Heather, Kris, Ben, Matthew, Nathan, Katelyn, Ryan, Sarah, and Jarrod; and eight great-grandchildren, Lainey, Brendan, Garrett, Amelia, Belle, Emma, Anna and Jenna. Cremation has taken place. A service of celebration will be held on March 1, 2013 at Lovell's Community Chapel on Bald Hill Road in Lovell's, MI. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mercy Hospice, 324 Meadows Dr., Grayling, MI 49738, Lovell's Community Chapel or a charity of your choice.
