William Donald Rutter

William Donald Rutter, age 90 of Grayling, passed away at his residence on May 23, 2011 with his family present. William grew up in Flint Michigan - the son of William and Josephine (Miller) Rutter. William graduated from Flint Central in 1939, where he met the love of his life Ruth Rolfe on a blind date - later marrying her on November 21, 1941. William & Ruth have 3 children - William (Linda) Rutter, Gayle Mertz, Ronald (Lanice) Rutter. They have 5 grand children - Mark, Susan (Bryan), Deborah (Paul), Jason and Carrah. They have 4 great grandchildren - Eric, Tanner, Meghan and Skyler. William was preceded in death by his parents and sister (Mabel.) After living in Flint for many years, they moved to Grayling in 1976 where they were the owner/operators of many businesses until they retired at age 80 from the Sears store. William was a member at the Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church since moving to Grayling - prior to that he was a member at Asbury UMC in Flint. Williams family were the contractors that built the Asbury UMC. Memorial service will be held on Saturday May 28, 2011 at 12 noon with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Michelson Memorial UMC In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the children's department at Michelson Memorial UMC 400 E Michigan Ave Grayling, MI 49738.
