William G. Moshier

March 7, 1920 — April 17, 2014

William "Bill" Gordon Moshier, 94, lifelong resident and entrepreneur of Grayling, passed away on April 17, 2014 at Mercy Manor. The youngest of six brothers, Bill was born on March 7, 1920, to William H. and Hattie (Smuck) Moshier at their Grayling home. Bill was a 1939 Grayling High School graduate. At age nineteen he opened his first business, the "Fountain of Youth" ice cream parlor & game room, producing his own brand of ice cream and toppings. The local CCC camp was one of his best customers! During WWII he joined the U.S. Navy serving 2 1/2 years aboard the LST 457 as a diesel mechanic in the South Pacific. He remained in contact with his surviving shipmates all these years. Upon returning home in August 1945, Bill reopened his ice cream parlor, rekindled his relationship with his high school sweetheart Laura Johnson of Hale and they were married January 1, 1946. Bill and Laura formed a partnership, expanding his business to include Moshier Refrigeration Sales & Service. He attended a number of trade schools over the years to stay current with his knowledge of electricity, refrigeration, heating, television, etc. Bill is survived by four generations of nieces and nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brothers. Interment beside his wife in the Hale cemetery will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
