William C. Greene

William Charles Greene, was born July 23, 1924 in Grayling, Michigan to William and Margrethe Green. He married Barbara Ann Schroeder Clark, on July 4, 1991 In Grayling where they have made their home for the past 22 years. Bill was the proud father of Jan Margrethe (Greene) Woods, of Spokane, WA and Kathleen A. Greene (William) Jahn of Helotes, TX and special daughter and son, Mary and Gary Davis of Grayling, MI. He was the step father of G. Randall Clark (Mary) of Northville, MI and Gregory (Kimberly) Clark of Harbor Springs, MI. He was the proud grandpa of Kevin (Marla) Marx of Waconia, MN, Karen Janae Marx Kirkland Whitt of Helena, MT, William David Jahn and Kirsten Jahn of Helotes, TX; step grand children Alexandra M. Clark of Howell, MI, G. Zachery Clark of South Lyon, MI and Kelsey L. Clark of Harbor Springs, MI and great grandpa to Kayla Madison Marx of Waconia, MN and Zyik Kirkland of Jamestown, CO. Also survived by cousins Dale (Cheryl) Melroy and Patricia Petrie and her family of Grayling and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step father, Alfred Walter Mangsen, brothers and their wives, Gordon (Katharine) Greene of Cheyenne, WY and John (Margaret) Greene of Canton, MI. Bill served his country in the US Army, 3rd Division in World War II and took part in the Anzio Beachhead and Mt. Rotondo battles. He liked to remind everyone that he walked the full length of Italy! He was a member of the Society of the 3rd Infantry Division Out Post #13 of Michigan and enjoyed attending meetings and reunions and sharing memories with his Army buddies. Bill was a member of Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church where he sang in the Chancel Choir. He truly loved his Lord and Savior and serving the church wherever he could. He spent many years following his retirement as the church custodian. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorials be directed to the William C. Greene Memorial Fund at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church in Grayling. Visitation will be held at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church on Wednesday August 28, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. up until the time of his service at 12:00 noon.
