Willard James ""BILL"" Tobin

Willard (Bill) Tobin, lifelong Crawford County resident, passed away quietly on Saturday September 18, 2010 in his home with family and friends by his bedside. Born in Johannesburg, Michigan, son of Max & Beatrice Tobin, Bill moved to Frederic as a small child and was raised there. An outstanding basketball player in his day, Bill graduated from Frederic High School and began working at the AuSable Woodworking plant for much of his young life. He worked at the Bear Archery in Grayling for most of his adult life until the factory moved to Gainesville, Florida. Upon partial retirement, he was responsible for caretaking of the Camp Gan Israel in Kalkaska for several years. A well known and respected outdoorsman, Bill took it upon himself to single handily increase the deer fish, and fowl population to this private area and teach several; of the young people from all over lower Michigan what Michigan out-of-doors was all about. For several years, Bill was well known for his ability to guide and , although, quite secretive of his areas, was well respected for his fish and game trophy fish and wild life. He has several "mounts" and taxidermy animals throughout northern Michigan , including call of the Wild Museum in Gaylord. Survived by his loving wife Loretta, Brother: Dean (Mert) of Ashville, NC Sons: Max (Retalou), Jim (Diane), John (Maureen), & Rocky (Shelley) Daughter: Pam (Guy) Cole Stepsons: Robert (Sherry) and Loren (Kathy) Williams 13 Grandchildren and 6 Great grandchildren He will be missed by all and certainly remembered by many of the hunters and fisherman who have known his through the years. Visitation will be held on Wednesday September 22, 2010 between 5-8 p.m. at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at Oakwood Cemetery on Thursday September 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Robert Barnett officiating.
