Walter Robert Tilson

Walter Robert Tilson, Jr., 66, of Grayling, passed away on March 25, 2019. He was born on April 17, 1952 in Detroit to the late Walter and Evelyn (Bess) Tilson. He married Nannette Huff on March 29, 1996 in Royal Oak. Walt graduated with a law degree from University of Detroit Mercy but later pursued a career in education. He first taught English at Kirtland Community College and then taught alternate education and GED completion through Crawford AuSable schools. Walt retired from Crawford AuSable Schools in 2018. He enjoyed fly fishing and was a guide for many on the Manistee and AuSable Rivers. Walt enjoyed great conversations and eclectic music. Survived by his children: Shilee (Josh) Taylor of Delton, Bridgette (Jason) Steele of Gaylord, Ethan Tilson of Pleasant Lake; and grandchildren Braeden Taylor and Sophie Steele; by his sister Elizabeth (Jim) Reid of Royal Oak, and brothers Joe (Carolyn) Tilson of Livonia and Chuck (Mary) Tilson of Wixom, as well as many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, wife, Nannette, and sister, Kathy Tilson. A wake will be held 1:30 pm April 6, 2019 at Paddle Hard in Grayling, MI. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
