Travis J. Batway, 24, of Grayling, passed away in his sleep July 22, 2012. Travis was born March 8, 1988 in Great Falls, Montana, the son Eric and Sheri (Wieland) Batway. Travis grew up as an Air Force brat and lived in a variety of places, but he always considered Grayling his "home." He graduated from Cheyenne Central High School, Wyoming, in 2006, where he was a member of the football, track and diving teams. He attended Kirtland Community College from 2006-2007. Travis proudly served his country as a Combat Medic, stationed in Missouri and completed a difficult deployment in Iraq with the 5th Engineering Battalion. Travis was a passionate hunter and fisherman, he also loved to ski and float down the AuSable River. He loved everything outdoors. Travis is survived by his parents Eric and Sheri of Grayling; his sisters Megen and Nicole and his daughter Dakota. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Mike and Beth Wieland, also of Grayling; and his paternal grandmother Carole Batway, of Waters. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather Charles R. Batway. Travis leaves uncles and aunts, Joe and Peggy Wieland, Marc and Jenni Batway, Jean Wieland, and Beth VanZytveld. His cousins, Vicki, Becky, Jacque, and Jon Wieland, and Conor Batway. A memorial is being established in Dakota's name for her future education, or charitable contributions can also be made to the National Military Family Association to aid other military members and their families nation-wide.
