Terry Hal Cranston, 79, of Grayling, MI, passed away at his home on December 25, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 17, 1934 in Newark, OH, to the late Helen F. (Meyers) and Hal Miller Cranston. Terry enjoyed collecting glass, attending antique shows and gun shows with his wife; his best friend of over 20 years, Patricia (McLaughlin) Cranston. Terry was passionate about flying and obtained his pilot's license at the age of 16. Terry proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1955-1957. Before starting his career in law enforcement in 1963, Terry was a corporate pilot and had the honor of flying dignitaries such as governors Milliken and Romney Sr. During his career as a Deputy with the Oakland County Sheriff's Department, Terry was instrumental in organizing the first Sheriff's Air Division in Michigan. He also received numerous commendations for his outstanding work with the department and the communities it served. After 25 years of dedicated service with OCSD, Terry retired. He and Pat moved to the Grayling area in 1993 where they enjoyed living the small town life. Terry is survived by his wife Pat, his stepdaughters: Lisa Lemke of Tucson, AZ; Patricia (Bryce) Baker of Wolverine Lake; and Krista (Daniel) Polaniec of Gaylord. Grandchildren: Jennifer, Lyric, Alexander, Emma, Rhiannon and Aedan. He is also survived by his loving aunt, Doris Meyers of Newark, OH; dear cousins: John Meyers of Washington and Sue Brady of Indiana. A gathering of family and friends to remember Terry's life will be held at the family home on January 4, 2014 at 4 p.m. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, consideration be given to a memorial contribution in Terry's memory to Hospice of Helping Hands at 322 W Houghton Ave, West Branch, MI 48661.
