Susan Esther Smith

Susan Esther Smith, age 73, passed away on February 13, 2025 at the nursing home where she resided. 

She was the very beloved daughter of Jan Smith & Carolyn Rakoczy, her step-father Ron Rakoczy and dear friend Carl Yost. She is survived by her mother Carolyn, sister Stacie, brother Jason, Stan Rakoczy, Joe Rakoczy, Paul Zill, and Rosanna Zill. Also other survivors including numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many close friends from the community.

Susan spent many of her formative years in Fort Wayne, IN. She moved to Florida and lived there for about one year before moving to England for a year. While she was there traveling around the continent, she met some great people. 

In 1974, Susan moved to Michigan. She went back to school for two years and then started working at the workshop in Roscommon assembling toys for Gay Toy Company. She eventually retired from there after 35 years of employment.

Susan had her "own" house on Park St. in Grayling where she lived for ten years. She then moved into an apartment until eventually moving into Grayling Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. She had an active and happy life. Her brothers and sisters were always very close to her.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 from 10:00 am until the funeral service at 11:00 am at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Grayling, MI with Pastor Thomas Mammoser officiating.
