Susan Marie McCurdy, 61, of Grayling, MI passed peacefully away on Monday, August 5, 2013 after her long struggle with MS. Susan was born in Cheboygan, MI on October 28, 1951, the daughter of the late Joyce Anne (Schmidt) and Bernard James "Jim" Bourrie. She graduated from Grayling High School in 1970 and continued her education at Kirtland Community College to become a cosmetologist. She married Robert Allen McCurdy on September 16, 1972 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grayling. Susan owned the Golden Touch Hair Salon from 1975-1996. After selling the salon she continued as a hairstylist working at A Cut Above and retired in 2004. Her parents were the former owners of the Grayling Restaurant where she spent a good part of her life working and being part of the family business. Along with Susan's business career she also was involved in the Grayling Promotional Association, Grayling Band Boosters, Project Graduation, and she became a Creative Memories Consultant. Susan enjoyed spending time with her family, loved being on the water, scrap booking, reading, cooking and baking. Survived by her husband Robert of over 40 years. Children: Darcie (Jeremy) Bowers of Grayling Cheryl McCurdy of Midland Brian McCurdy of Kalamazoo. Grandchildren: Gavin and Raigen Bowers. Sister: Cheryl (Dave) Millikin of Grayling Mother-in-law: Doris Mc Curdy of Tennessee and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents Jim and Joyce Bourrie; sister Kathleen Bourrie, and brother Garfield Bourrie. Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 7, 2013 between 1-8 p.m. at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday August 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grayling, MI, with Rev. Robbie Deka officiating.
