Shirley Ann (Harney) Johnston died September 6, 2018 while residing at StoryPoint assisted living facility in Rockford, Michigan. Shirley lived the majority of her life in Grayling, Michigan. She was born June 19, 1938 to Clarence (Bum) Harney and Alice (Bill) Harney who preceded her in death. Shirley graduated from Grayling High School in 1956. She married Chester David Johnston on June 23, 1956. Chester preceded her in death on August 4, 1988. Shirley worked many jobs in Grayling from waiting tables, as a Supervisor at Bear Archery, management at Northern National Bank, medical records at Mercy Hospital and scheduled appointments for Dr. Ferdinand J. Korneli. While working, she took night classes in business and banking at Kirtland Community College earning an Associate's degree. Preceding Shirley in death were brothers Ronald and Donald who died shortly after birth, August 8, 1935. Shirley is survived by sister, Betty (Robert) Williams of Breckenridge, brother, Jack (Sherry) Harney of Grayling, son, Dave (Maribeth) Johnston of Comstock Park and daughter, Debbie (Dale) Stuart of Sparta, Michigan. Shirley is also survived by 6 grandchildren, John (Erica) Rasmussen, Jessie (Ryan) DuGuay, Josh (Kristin) Rasmussen, Nic (Kristen) Stuart, Samantha Johnston and Danielle Johnston. She was also blessed with 9 great grandchildren. Pall bearers are Jim Corlew, Jeff Harney, Mac Williams, Josh Rasmussen, Ryan Duguay and Nic Stuart. Funeral services will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home, 1108 W. North Down River Rd., Grayling, Michigan on Monday, September 8, 2018. Visitation from 10:00-12:00 PM and funeral service at 12:00 PM. Interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery. A luncheon will directly follow the interment at the Masonic Temple, 304 E. Michigan Ave., Grayling, Michigan.
