Robert Jack "PAPPY" Papendick

Robert J. Papendick "Pappy" Age 87, of Clio, Michigan (formally of Grayling, MI) passed away at his home on Friday, November 24, 2012. Robert was born on August 28, 1925, in Grayling, Michigan, the son of the late Leona (Skinner) and John A. Papendick. He served in the US Navy as a Ships Cook on the USS LST 1027 from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. He received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon (2 stars), Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal (2 stars), and the Victory Medal and was Honorably Discharged. Robert spent a few years sailing the great lakes before he started working for General Motors in 1948. He married Maxine D. Kolka on February 20, 1954. On May 29, 1987, after working for 38 years he retired from Buick. Robert is survived by his his wife Maxine of 58 years, daughter Dana and husband Kim Shier of Mt. Morris; daughter Tracy and husband Mark Brown of Clio; four grandchildren Bradley Shier of Jacksonville, Florida, Stephanie Shier of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Jessica and Joshua Brown of Clio, brother Leroy and wife Sally Papendick. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Thelma Madsen. Services will be held at Sorenson and Lockwood Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 28, 2012. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimers Association.
