Robert (Bob) Finkbeiner, age 86, of Grayling, MI passed away September 13, 2021.
Bob was born on February 9, 1935 to William and Ella (Karrer) Finkbeiner in Grand Rapids, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents William and Ella, brother Herbert, and step-sister Evelyn. He said a loving farewell to his wife (just short of 40 years) Wanda Finkbeiner. A loving father to daughters Kathryn (Dan) Hettinger, Lisa Lebtich, Julia (Scott) Finkbeiner-Szulga, son David (Gina) Finkbeiner, and daughter Misty Finkbeiner. He stepped up to the plate and shared his fatherly love to step-children Cindy Jeminez, Sandra (Tom) Washe, and Kathy (Don) Scott. His blended family blessed him with sixteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. He loved his family and will be deeply missed. When he was a younger man, he enjoyed snowmobiling, boating with family and friends, and playing golf with his wife in a couple's league. Bob enjoyed his winter home in Florida, and looked forward to Sunday breakfast with his buddies.
Bob worked at GM for many years (Die sinking), but his career path was (active duty) in the Michigan Army National Guard. His initial assignment was 1st Sergeant with the 1/119 FA. He then was reassigned to HQ STARC Recruiting and promoted to SGM. His final assignment was in the HQ STARC Training Division. SGM Robert Finkbeiner had 42 years of dedicated service. Husband, father, and grandfather, we salute you.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be Friday, September 24, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling, MI. A luncheon will follow at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. Condolences can be shared with Bob's family at www.sorensonlockwood.com.
