Richard Harr Ebert

Richard Harr Ebert, 90, of Roscommon, MI passed away peacefully at home on February 7^th, 2021 with his wife of nearly 70 years at his side.

Richard (Dick) was born to Gustave and Adah (Harr) Ebert in Detroit, MI on September 24, 1930. He was a graduate of Roscommon High School where he was an outstanding athlete. Dick met his wife Beverly Cook, the love of his life, at Central Michigan University and were married June 23^rd, 1951. Dick’s first passion was his family, and his second passion was basketball. He was a teacher and Varsity basketball coach, building successful programs in Frederic, Sebewaing, Flint Bendle, Mancelona, and Holly high schools for 30 years, touching many of the lives of his students and players. He was inducted into the Michigan Basketball Coaches’ Hall of Fame in 1987 as well as the Holly Coaches’ Hall of Fame in 2006. Dick also served in the United States Air Force. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer, and spent most of his life at Higgins Lake, the lake he dearly loved. Dick will be deeply missed by everyone that knew him.

Richard is survived by his wife Beverly Ebert, his sister Harriet Lenhart of Pennsylvania and his brother James Ebert of Roscommon; children, Rick (Peggy) Ebert of Mio, MI, Lorri (Richard) Glidden of Higgins Lake, MI, Kurt (Leslie) Ebert of Georgia, Michael (Holly) Ebert of Illinois, and Kathleen (Gregory) Gothro of Grayling, MI; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will take place at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling, MI February 13^th, 2021 with visitation before from 1pm-3pm, service immediately following. Burial will take place later in Spring 2021 at Oakwood Cemetery in Lyon Twp, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Richard Ebert to The Higgins Lake Foundation, PO Box 753, Roscommon, MI 48653.
