Richard "Dick" Donald Guyot

Richard ‘Dick’ Guyot, 89 of Frederic, MI passed away on Friday, July 26th, 2024 surrounded by his family.

Dick was born on September 1st, 1934 in Wyandotte, MI to Roscoe and Celia (Mros) Guyot. He attended Mt. Carmel Parochial School where he played basketball and rowed competitively. He joined the United States Navy serving 3 and a half years during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge from service he began his career in the manufacturing industry he worked for a number of companies, most until they ended their time in Michigan. He never thought that this career path would bring the opportunity to fulfill his dream of living in Northern Michigan. An opportunity brought him, his wife Neva and children to Frederic. They purchased the then named Sansheri Restaurant and Campground which they renamed to the Trail’s Campground, the name it still processes today. Upon selling the Trail's Campground Dick and Neva decided to open Guy’s Cleaning, which served as the janitorial service to numerous businesses in both Crawford and Roscommon counties for 20 years.

Dick was a devout outdoorsman. He loved all aspects of being in nature, whether it was hunting, fishing or tending to one of his beloved gardens, who's offerings were used in his other love of cooking. No family gathering was complete without one of his signature dishes. One of his other passions was football, especially his Grayling Vikings. Even after his children and grandchildren ended their tenures at the school, he could still be found at every home game. These passions were passed on to his children and also his grandchildren.

Remaining to cherish Dick's memories are his wife Neva, their children - Russell Guyot, Alan (Renee) Guyot, Lori Jenks, Sue Leffew, Marie Teal, Tim (Shannon) Hohl, Julie (Cameron) Sharp and Felicia Guyot, 16 - Grandchildren, 11 - Great Grandchildren, his brothers - Tom (Carol) Guyot and Jerry (Debbie) Guyot, as well as many other family members.

Preceding Dick in death are his parents Roscoe and Celia (Mros) Guyot, his brothers Dr. Daniel Guyot and George Guyot, his Granddaughter Jessica Teal, his nephews Michael Guyot and Dennis Guyot and his uncle Ed Mros.

A visitation and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 28th, 2024 at 2p at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling. A luncheon to follow at the Frederic Township Hall in Frederic at 4p. The family invites all those who knew Dick to join them in celebration of his life at these events.
