Philippa Jane Jones

Philippa "Pippa" Jane Jones, of Frederic, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 31, 2024. She was born in Harrogate, Yorkshire, England on March 23, 1943 to Philippus and Ellen Flohil. Pippa moved to London in 1961 where she began her training as a registered nurse at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children. In 1966 she moved to Canada and worked as a registered nurse in Toronto before later moving to Windsor, Ontario. It was there that she met the love of her life James Peter Jones. The couple married on October 6, 1973 in Amherstburg, Ontario. Pippa began working in Detroit at the Henry Ford Hospital in 1977 as a psychiatric nurse. While living in Canada and working in Detroit, Peter and Pippa shared a love of camping in Northern Michigan. It was this love that would eventually lead them to Saginaw Michigan so they could be closer to their favorite part of the world. Pippa spent the majority of her nursing career working at the Caro Regional Center as a psychiatric nurse. After retiring from Caro, Pippa spent several years working as a home health care nurse. This is where she said many times she had found her “true passion” working and caring for patients with dementia and their families. During her early years in Michigan, Pippa and Peter purchased land on the Manistee River and eventually would build a cabin to call home. There was no place on earth she loved more than their special part of the world affectionately known as “Bug Acres”.

Pippa was an avid knitter, wool spinner and quilter. She was rarely seen without knitting needles and frequently working on what she fondly referred to as UFO’s (Un-Finished Objects). Her family has been blessed over the years with many of her beautiful hand-made gifts including spectacularly bright colored wool socks, warm sweaters, and thoughtfully designed intricate quilts. She had a passion for creating and an endless imagination for future projects. She loved helping other artists and connecting with them both locally as well as when traveling to events like her fall fiber retreats. In recent years she cherished her Monday quilting sessions with her beloved friends “The Loose Threads”. Living the remainder of her years in Northern Michigan was truly her dream come true.

Pippa is survived by a loving family, including her beloved husband of 51 years Peter Jones, and their two sons, David and his wife Jennifer of Saginaw, and Bryn of Zionsville, IN. Pippa is also survived by grandchildren Tyler, Emily, Evan, and Carwen; great-granddaughter Rhiannon, and extended family Jennifer Urban and Sunshine Ferrero. Also survived by her brother Richard Flohil and his daughters Sara and Jill. Preceded in death by her parents and sister Cornelia.
