Paul John Hill, 77, joined his wife Pat (Patricia Ellen) in Heaven, on November 1, 2018. Paul was born and raised in Detroit Michigan, graduating from Cody High School in 1961. He and Pat married in 1962, creating a beautiful family in children Patty (Patricia Jean) and Jim (James Paul). In school years, he enjoyed many sports, his favorites being hockey, baseball, and judo. Having loved camping and "up north", Pat and Paul escaped the city life, moving their family north to Grayling in the summer of 1974, where they made their family home in Beaver Creek, in the Roscommon part of Crawford County. Paul made a living on various jobs including Mercy Hospital, Automatic Specialties (tool and due inspector), followed by his passion for police work, serving on the Auxiliary unit on Grayling City Police Department, then finally as a Corrections Officer for the Crawford County Sheriff Department, after fully retiring in 2007. Among Paul's many hobbies and passions, his favorite passions including hunting, camping, wood splitting, marathon runs, shooting, firearms and reloading ammunition, fishing, martial arts (judo and personal self defense), and antique cars. During his lifetime, he owned several Corvettes and a 57 Chevy Belair. Among his most proud activities were his organization and maintenance of the jail library program for prisoners, his many extended years teaching judo and self defense at the Grayling Judo Club as well as to countless officers and personnel at the Sheriff Department, plus his work during retirement with the FOP (Fraternal Order of Police). His proudest accomplishment was his "Labor of Love", the Pat Hill Nursing Scholarship through Kirtland Community College Foundation, founded in memorial of his Beloved Wife, Pat, who was a RN for over 35 years. Paul's love of his life, Patricia Ellen, preceded him in death in 2008. Also predeceasing him were his father Jack Hill, brother Michael J. Kudlas, and stepfather, Julian Kudlas. Surviving Paul is his Mother, Arlene Kudlas, a Daughter, Patricia J Stephan (Bryan), a Son James P Hill (Julie Clayton-Hill), a granddaughter, Brianna N. Stephan, brother Dennis Hill (Sue), Step-Brother, John Zemboy (Barbara), together with his beloved dog and constant companion, Tumbles, and many, many very dear friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018, 2-4pm and 6-8pm, at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Friday, November 9,2018 at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church, at 11:00 a.m. Family will receive visitors beginning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Beaver Creek Cemetery, lying beside Pat. Please return to the church for a luncheon and fellowship with family and friends after burial. The family is looking forward to your attendance, sharing in the grief and celebration of the life of Paul Hill, our Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and most of all, Friend.
