Patricia Ellen Petrie came into this world on May 9, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan, born to the late Ellen and Erling Klug. She was affectionately called “Pastor Patty” by her congregation and “Mama-Dear” by her many children. She made her triumphant journey to heaven on the morning of Saturday, August 8, 2020. Without question, Jesus and the Angels rejoiced at her arrival!
Throughout her life, Patty studied the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In 1997, Patty and her husband Duane Petrie founded the Burning Bush Tabernacle, a Pentecostal Church in Grayling, Michigan. There, she ministered to her community and prayed for those around the world. Patty’s work touched many lives beyond her congregation, including prison ministry and mission trips to orphanages in Haiti. On Sundays and holidays her home was open to anyone and everyone, where she spread her love and kindness and served heaping plates of pot roast and garlic chicken.
Patty leaves behind 5 children, 4 step-children, 29 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild on the way! Patty loved her family unconditionally and made an effort to be present for all events and vacations, often flying around the globe to be spend precious time with loved ones. She was loved deeply in return.
She is preceded in death by her husband Duane Petrie, daughter Christina Meldrum, son Jamie Petrie, grandson Gregory Petrie, step-daughter Debbie Petrie, brothers Timothy and Robert Klug, and sister Nancy Scott.
One of Patty’s favorite Bible passages was Exodus Chapter 23, verse 20: “I am sending an angel ahead of you to guard you along the way and to bring you to the place I have prepared.”
We take comfort in knowing Patty is dancing with the Angels—her warm smile spread across her face and her small arms raised high to strike her tambourine.
Pastor Patty will be buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling, Michigan. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held in Spring 2021.
