NICOLAE MIHAESCU, JR. Nicolae "Nick" Mihaescu, Jr. age 82, of Grayling, Michigan, passed away peacefully February 19th, 2013. He was born August 2nd, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan to Nicolae "Nick"and Theresa Mihaescu, Sr. Mr. Mihaescu was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Arlene Sammons, brother Ronald Mihaescu, and step-daughters, Sandy Kelly-Boersma and Kathy Kelly. He is survived by his beloved wife, Naomi of Grayling, his son Nick H. Mihaescu of Murrieta, Calif., his daughter, Sherri B. (Carl) Marcon of Tempe, Ariz., and his stepson Bob Kelly of Grayling. He is also survived by five sisters, Judy (Kenneth) Brower, Patricia (Walter) Kozak, Diane (Robert) Wheeler, Ruth Mihaescu and Rita Mihaescu, as well as 14 nieces and nephews. Nick leaves behind grandchildren, Justin (Nikki) Marcon and Lindsey (Bryce) Carlson; great-grandchildren, Michael and Kennedy Marcon; step-grandchildren, Ronald Boersma, Stephanie Boersma-Subu, Mackenzie Kelly, Shai Kelly, Candyse and Trenton Brown, Zoey and Ivy Arthur. Nick worked as a skilled mason and cement finisher for Ford Motor Co. in Sterling Heights for 32 years. He moved to Grayling in 1980 where he built a home on Peaceful Vista and worked part time at Ernies Fleamarket until his retirement in 1992. It was in Grayling that he met Naomi Kelly and they married on May 18th, 1988. They would have celebrated 25 years of marriage this year. Nick truely loved the Grayling area and all that it offered. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, bowling, karaoke, and dancing the night away with his lovely Naomi at one of the local pubs. He also enjoyed gardening, specializing in tomatoes, the challenges of growing grapes and making some great homemade wines. Having played semi-pro football in the early 50's, Nick has always been an diehard Detroit Lions fan. He also loved watching the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, and NASCAR. Nick was an active member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #3465 for 25 years and also adhered to Freemasonry beliefs and practices most of his adult life. A memorial service celebrating Mr. Mihaescu's life will be held on April 21rd, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Elmwood Cemetery and arrangements will be handled by Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling.
