Miles Vernon Moomey

Miles V. Moomey, age 79, of Grayling, died January 1, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.  He was born in Alma on October 19, 1941 the son of Gerald and Wynona (Showers) Moomey.  He married Joanne Brenner on June 30, 1962 in Alma at her parents’ home.  They lived in Alma raising their family while Miles worked for Dow Chemical for over 25 years.

Miles loved music all of his life.  In his younger years he sang with the Barbershoppers in Alma, and always enjoyed playing guitar with his brother.  Following his retirement, he and Joanne moved to Grayling where his love for music was shared in a karaoke business they ran together for many years.  He was also an avid reader, especially writings related to wartime history.  He liked to fish and hunt but most loved his family and being with them.

Miles is survived by his wife, Joanne; 3 children, Chris (Randy) Smith, Miles Scott (Deborah) Moomey and Cathy (Rob) Barror; 8 grandchildren, Corey Sullivan, Kaylee (Corey) McCaw, Colton Smith, Sierra Smith, Jeannette Sternhagen, Eric (Kristin) Sternhagen, Nick Barror (fiancé, Kaitlin Shortridge) and Cheyenne Barror (fiancée, Zach Max); 7 great-grandchildren, Maddax, Adyson and Kasen McCaw, Alivia and Mason Seeley, Landon and Mya Sternhagen; and a brother-in-law, Gary Brenner.

Preceding him in death were his parents; mother and father-in-law, Harriet and Andrew Brenner; sister, Barbara Wilk; brother, Larry Moomey; and daughter-in-law, Teresa Moomey

Visitation will be Wednesday, January 6, 2021 from 11 AM until funeral service at 1 PM at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Bob Fall.  Additional visitation will be held in Alma at Seville Community Church of God, Thursday, January 7, 2021 from 1 PM until prayers of committal at 2 PM.  Private burial will follow at Chapel Gardens Cemetery in Alma.
