He was born to Everett and Shirley (Poet) Welt on April 28, 1945 in Wayne, MI. Mike started his career at Welt Oil Company in Belleville. Later he was employed by Wayne County Road Commission as a mechanic and worked on the plow trucks. In the later part of his career, he was a Supervisor for the Wayne County parks of Elizabeth Park and Crosswinds Marsh. One of his favorite events at Elizabeth Park every year was the Easter Marshmallow Drop.
Michael was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a NASCAR lover too but spent most of his time outdoors. He also loved to watch western movies. He was the life of the party. He truly enjoyed and had a passion for riding his Harley Davidson.
Michael is survived by his children, Marion "Mimi" Welt-Smith, Kimberly (Kevin) Lauterwasser, Donald (Beverly) Jeffries, Ronald Jeffries, Timothy (Melissa) Jeffries, Michael (Kerry) Welt, Tina Jeffries, Vicki (Ronald) Wygonik; 22 Grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife Marion, recently passed away wife Marie Welt, grandson James Dylan Lauterwasser, brother Dan and sister Sue.
A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
