Maxine D. Papendick (Kolka) Age 84, of Clio, Michigan, (formally of Grayling, MI.) passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 1, 2014, with her daughters by her side. Maxine was born January 10, 1930, in Grayling, Michigan, the daughter of the late Beulah Cleo (Purvis) and Joseph Kolka. She was a 1947 graduate of Grayling High School. In 1948 she worked for Michigan Bell in Saginaw, Michigan. She moved back to Grayling in 1950 and started working for the Bear Archery Company. In November 1953 she became a legal guardian to her siblings after her father's passing. Maxine married Robert J. Papendick on February 20, 1954, and moved to Flint, MI. in 1957 where Robert worked for General Motors. They built a home in Clio, MI. together and raised a family. Maxine enjoyed being a homemaker, sewing clothing, reupholstering furniture, quilting, watching NBA Basketball, bowling and spending time with her family. She was a lifetime member of Weight Watchers, handmade gifts each Christmas for the Children's Charity, and spent a lifetime as a caregiver first to her younger siblings after her mother passed away when she was just 11 years old, to raising her own daughters, caring for her grandchildren in order for her daughters to return to work and eventually taking care of her husband of 58 years, Robert, during his long illness with Alzheimer's until he passed away on November 23, 2012. Maxine was a truly remarkable person who touched our lives and will be forever missed. Maxine is survived by her daughter Dana and husband Kim Shier of Mt. Morris; daughter Tracy and husband Mark Brown of Clio; four grandchildren Bradley Shier of Jacksonville, Florida, Stephanie Shier of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Jessica and Joshua Brown of Clio, MI. A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday May 6, 2014, at Elmwood Cemetery in Grayling, MI. Arrangements entrusted to Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
