Mary Ellen Metiva

Mary Ellen Metiva, age 88, of Bear Lake Twp, MI passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 11, 2025.

Mary Ellen was born to Cordon and Mildred (Ross) Crosby in Akron, MI on May 15, 1936. Mary Ellen’s passion was quilting. She sewed over 15,000 hours making lap quilts for the Veterans hospital. She went to classes at the Ice House Quilt Shop in Grayling and met and made many friends in the quilting community there. She also worked at the Christian HELP Center for many years. If Mary Ellen wasn't quilting, then you would find her either hunting, fishing or playing cards. She even harvested her last buck 2 years ago at the age of 86.

Mary Ellen will be missed by many family members, including her children, Cheryl (Mark) Kercher, Dru (Colleen) Metiva, Karen (Ron) Marker, Susan (Dan) Eason, and Bob (Joni) Metiva; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Metiva in 2017.

A Celebration of Mary Ellen’s Life will take place at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling, MI on January 15, 2025 from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Mary Ellen to St. Judes Children's Hospital and the Shriners Hospital for Children.
