Martha Clara "Marty" Walrath

July 22, 1924 — February 11, 2009

Martha "Marty" Clara Walrath, 84, passed away suddenly February 11, 2009. She is survived by her daughter Sherry (Bill) Haag, Grayling, son, Michael (Pam) Keen, Tampa, Florida and John (Debbie) Walrath, Springfield, Oregon, 6 grandchildren and 2 great- grandchildren. Marty spent time in her early life on the farm in New Buffalo, Michigan, where she and her two cousins were always getting in some kind of mischievous trouble. She spent time riding a Harley Davidson until she had children and decided it was too dangerous. She traveled throughout the United States living in Indiana, California, Michigan, Minnesota, Alabama and Florida. In 1954, she married Eugene Walrath who died in 1984. She moved to Florida in 1985 where she lived close to her sons until she developed eye problems and decided it was time to be close to her daughter and moved to Grayling where she lived in the Senior Apartments. She enjoyed having her own place filling it with crafty things, pictures of family, nature and mementos of trips and adventures. She loved her family, her country, and nature. Her favorite things were Mickey Mouse and Disneyland, the ocean, Alan Jackson music, going to the casino and Walmart. She spent her time doing craft projects especially making bead necklaces and bracelets. Many of her bead projects went to church mission projects. She had a smile for everyone and usually a story or tale to tell. She loved life and was happy with every day. A celebration of her life will be held February 28, 2009 from 1-5 PM at the Grayling Senior Center, 308 Lawndale, Grayling Memorial donations can be made in her name to the Crawford County Commission on Aging, 308 Lawndale, Grayling, Michigan 49738 Arrangements were made by Sorenson- Lockwood Funeral Home.
