Martelle D. Lietz

Martelle D. Lietz, 96, of Grayling, MI., passed away on June 22, 2014. Martelle was born in Wisconsin on May 8, 1918, daughter of the late Clara (Marshall) and Rufus Ison. She married George W. Lietz on December 27, 1941 in Kentucky. He preceded her in death in 1950. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She had worked at Shoppenagons and the Keyport Clinic. Martelle volunteered at Hartwick Pines, Crawford County Library, and Historical Museum. She was a nature advocate and enjoyed watching birds. Most of all, she enjoyed her family. Survived by: Daughters: Kirsten Lietz of Grayling, Laraine (Warren) Lietz-Lucas of California , Maureen Hicks of Stanton, MI. 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Sister: Arlene Savola of Oregon. Preceded in death by her husband George and a son, Michael. Visitation will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 between 5-8 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Robbie Deka officiating. Interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery.
