Marie "Pete" Pauline Akers

Marie "Pete" Pauline Akers, 93, of Grayling, MI passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 8, 2014. Marie was born February 6, 1921 to Frank and Eva LaMotte in Grayling, MI. Marie was married to LeRoy Akers on August 4, 1947. She worked for the Crawford AuSable School District for 33 years and retired in 1993. Marie was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Grayling. She enjoyed reading and doing puzzle books. She loved caring for and spending time with her grandchildren. Marie is survived by children, Larry Akers of Grayling, MI, Lynn (Tom) Welsh of Bridgeport, MI, and Maribeth (Steve) Miller of Grayling, MI; grandchildren, Erin (Adam) Mattens of Battle Creek, MI, Megan (Dan) Burr of Midland, MI, Colin Welsh of Westland, MI, Christopher (Tabitha) Malone of West Virginia, ShaLee Miller of Grayling, MI, Dillon Miller of Grayling, MI, and Ashley Malone of Gaylord; great-grandchildren, Katie and Kyhis Malone, Mason and Mya Mattens, Julia and Jackson Burr, and Tristen and McCoy Malone; sister Donna "Sammie" Williams of Grayling, MI; and honorary son Kerry Clough. Marie is preceded in death by husband LeRoy Akers, baby son LeRoy and 3 sisters, Lillian Clough, Margaret Balch, and Isabella Schwartz. Visitation will be held Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm. A rosary will take place at 7:30. A funeral service will take place Monday, October 13, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 11:00 am.
