L. Gayle Prause

Gayle Prause, age 81, of Grayling, MI passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022, in Roscommon, MI.

Gayle was born on July 4, 1940, to Louise Campbell in Sandusky, MI. She is preceded in death by mother, Louise Campbell and brother, Tom Nauman. She is survived by children Susan Prause of Vadnais Heights, MN, Jeff (Pam) Prause of Grayling, MI and Brenda (Scott) Shoberg of Duluth, MN; grandchildren Mandy Lindner, Dean Prause, Dan Lindner, and Leah Prause (12); and great grandchildren Madison (14), Ethan (12), and Olivia (10).

Gayle attended Deckerville schools and earned a master’s degree in education from Central Michigan University. She spent most of her career as an educator at Grayling High School and Kirtland Community College, with summer positions at a law firm and at Camp Grayling.  The highlight of her career was helping so many students with their decisions to attend college and vocational school after high school.  She loved to meet up with her students after they became adults to hear about their lives after high school.  She was an avid seamstress and an expert in needlepoint, and loved to make baby bibs, quilts, and pictures for gifts for family and friends.  It was very difficult for family to give her enough books to satisfy her appetite for reading, and she regularly visited the Grayling Library.  She loved animals, especially her beloved cats, whom she spoiled rotten. She loved gardening and canning foods and filling her backyard with birdfeeders. Gayle always thought of others before herself, and gave generously to the community of Grayling, Mount Hope Lutheran Church, and continued to support the Crawford AuSable Schools after her retirement.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at The Brook in Roscommon for their excellent care, who many times went above and beyond to care for our mother/grandmother.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking that memorials be sent to the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter.

Public visitation Thursday, February 17 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral service at noon at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home with a light luncheon afterwards.
