Kenneth Martin Chapp

November 12, 1934 — March 29, 2017

Kenneth Martin "Chappie" Chapp, 82, passed away on March 29, 2017 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife of 52 years the former Greta Rasmussen, and twin daughters Paula Andrews (Scott) and Patricia Forman (Larry) and two grandchildren Max and Ashley; and sister, Shirley Larson (Larry) and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Dorothy Chapp. He was born in Romeo and lived in Hamtramck until he was 11. In 1946, he moved to Roscommon and his parents purchased The Owl Restaurant and operated it for 20 years. He began working at the restaurant as a potato peeler and smelt cleaner at age 11. He was very athletic in high school playing football, basketball and ran track. After graduation he worked as an electrician for Gallagher Electric in Roscommon and then went into the service at Nike Coastal Guard Unit in California and was honorably discharged. He returned to work at Gallagher Electric and once married he moved to Grayling and worked for 30 years at Cadillac Overall/Arrowhead Uniform as a route driver salesman. He built and has lived in the same ranch home in Grayling on North Park Drive. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, was one of the first members of the Grayling Youth Boosters Club, was past president of the Grayling Lions Club, was a member of the Grayling Moose Club and was close friends of the Grayling American Legion. In 1990, he was elected Crawford County Road Commissioner and held the position for 6 years. He liked to dabble in real estate by buying and selling small pieces of property. He worked hard and enjoyed fishing, hunting, being with friends and family, and meeting and talking with people always wanting to learn new things. He was part owner of a remote cabin on Trout Lake in Searchmont, Ontario which was on one of his favorite destinations for many years. In retirement, he purchased a place closer to home on Schupac Lake in Lovells where he enjoyed meeting new friends in that area. Funeral mass will be Friday, April 7 at St. Mary's Catholic Church at 11:00 AM officiating with be Fr. Jerry Hunko. Visitation will take place at St. Mary's beginning at 10:00 a.m. up until the time of the mass. Military honors will be held at Elmwood Cemetery following the mass. Luncheon will be at the American Legion from 12:00 - 3:00 PM.
