Kathryn Marie Garbe, 87, of Grayling passed away on Tuesday June 12, 2012. Kathryn was born in Mancelona, Michigan on January 9, 1925, daughter of the late Henrietta Marie (Stephan) and Harold Theodore Skingley. She attended Gaylord Rural Agricultural School and then The Cadet Nurse Corps for 1 1/2 years. She joined Michelson United Methodist Church in 1941. Over the years she was the librarian of the church, part of Mary Martha Circle, 3 M Quilters, and enjoyed singing at the church. Kathryn worked at Warner Brother Pictures in Detroit, Oxford Savings Bank, Dr. Davidson & Peterson, but,most of the years she was house wife and mother. Kathryn enjoyed reading, needlepoint, cross stitching, knitting, and quilting. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for 57 years, officer for 38 years which included 3 times as the Worthy Matron. She was a member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and Worthy Chaplain, served on many Supreme Committees and was Past High Priestess of the Houghton Lake White Shrine. In 1976, she received the Grand Cross of Colors from the Rainbow Girls. She was married to Ellis A. Traylor in 1947, he preceded her in death in 1974. Her sons are David Ellis (Laura) Traylor of Oxford, MI and Roger Harold (Barbara)Traylor of Mesa, AZ. She later married Carl William Garbe, her beloved husband, he also preceded her in death. Grandchildren: Children of David: Eric, Lisa (Jeff), Samuel (Marsha), Sarah (Jon), Martha (Dan), Jessica (Steve), Amanda, Children of Roger: Rachel, Thomas (Courtney) Great grandchildren: Marshall & Wyatt, children of Lisa & Jeff; Nicholas & Maxim, children of Samuel & Marsha; Sarah & Jon anticipating arrival of a child in August; Riley, child of Martha & Dan; Gabriel, child of Jessica & Steve; Eden & Lisa, children of Thomas & Courtney. Sisters: Dorothy & Mary Esther and many nieces and nephews. Kathryn was blessed in having her nieces Marion (Gary) Parkinson and Pauline Hatfield provide care for he in the family's absence in recent years. Preceded in death by parents, husbands Ellis and Carl, sister Virginia and brother Walter. Family will receive visitors beginning at 12:00 noon up to the time of her Memorial Service that begins at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday June 16, 2012 at Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Pat Robbins officiating.
