Kathleen Cherven

Kathleen M. Cherven, 90, of Grayling, MI., passed away peacefully on December 16, 2014 at Northern Pines Assisted Living in Grayling. She was born in Grayling on March 13, 1924, the daughter of the late Leone (Lennon) and Emil Kraus. Kathleen attended Siena Heights College in Adrian, MI. She married Al Cherven of Roscommon on January 10, 1948, and they resided in Roscommon, MI for many years. Together they owned The Village Shop in Roscommon, an apparel store, which they bought in 1965. Kathleen is remembered for her fine taste in women's clothing and business acumen, and she provided personal shopper service to many of her customers. She enjoyed knitting, family gatherings, and the many years she wintered with Al in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband Al on March 19, 2013. Surviving are her four children; Dr. Philip Cherven and wife Susan of Wichita, KS; Constance Bucklew and husband Neil of Morgantown, WV; John Cherven of Grayling, MI; and Patrice Lockwood and husband Rodney of Birmingham, MI. Kathleen cherished pictures and stories of her eight grandchildren: Allison, Leslie, George, Michael, Natalie, Mark, Philip, and Alexis; and eight great-grandchildren: Thomas, Peyton, Cade, Mitchell, Matthew, Krysta, Sienna, and Adriana. In addition to her parents, Kathleen was preceded in death by brothers Emil Kraus, Jr., William Kraus, and John Kraus, and sisters Virginia Kraus and Yvonne Fitzpatrick. The family wishes to thank Dr. Lisa Harrington, Mercy Hospice, and the many fine caregivers who were devoted to her care. Family has held a private service.
