Mr. Joseph Henry Kutkuhn, 82, of Grayling passed away on Monday, December 28th, 2009. Joseph was born in Weehawken, New Jersey on March 28, 1927, the son of the late Joseph Charles and Amelia (Obermyer) Kutkuhn. He married the former Bobbie Farner on September 6,1953. Served in the USAF between 1945-49. Accomplishments include BS 1953 Colorado State Univ. MS/Ph.D. 1954/1956 Iowa State Univ. Fishery Mgt/Statistics Retired 1987 after 30 years with US Fish & Wildlife Service (FWS) as fishery research and management biologist. Professional career included tours as marine biologist with California DF&G, Stanford, CA, as Assistant Director of NMFS (BCF) laboratories in Galveston, TX, and Beaufort, NC, as Chief Scientist with UNDP/FAO in Lima (Callao), Peru, as Director of FWS (USGS) Great Lakes Fishery Laboratory (Science Center) in Ann Arbor, MI, and as Associate FWS Director for Fishery Resources in Washington, DC (1982-87). Recipient of US Interior Department's Meritorious and Distinguished Service Awards. o Served or serves professionally as volunteer consultant/manager with various area/regional conservation groups: Upper Manistee River Association/Restoration Committee, Head Waters Land Conservancy (founding chair), Huron Pines RC&D Area Council, Michigan Council Trout Unlimited, George A. Griffith Foundation, Michigan Resource Stewards, and as peer reviewer for Great Lakes Fishery Trust. Joseph actively served in various capacities of leadership in several churches. Survived by his wife Bobbie of 56 years Daughters: Constance (Joel) Bird of NC. Jacquelyn (Ramon) Torres of Ann Arbor. Holly (Mark) Cooper of NC. Sons: Michael (Bonnie) Kutkuhn of NC., Kenneth (Andrea) Kutkuhn of VA. 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren Sister: Joy Hartley of FL. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, James Kutkuhn. Visitation will be held on Saturday January 2, 2010 between 11:00 a.m. to 1:00p.m. at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
