John William Canfield of Grayling passed away June 15th, 2023.
He was born August 7th, 1933, a Grayling native and 1952 graduate. He served in the US Navy on the USS Snowden from March 1953 until December 1960. He also served the National Guard from June 1980 to June 1986. He worked for Bear Archery and then the State of Michigan as a security guard for M.A.T.E.S. until retirement.
John is survived by his wife Sue (LaGrow) Canfield of 65 years; children, Postmaster Sidney (Jane) Canfield, Dr. Cecilia O'Connor, and son-in-law Randy Austin; 7 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his daughter Miranda Austin and son-in-law Dennis O'Connor. John was one of 13 children to John and Hyacinth Canfield.
Visitation/viewing will be held on June 23, 2023 at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm followed by a graveside service with military honors at Beaver Creek Twp Cemetery at 12:30 pm.. A luncheon will be served at the Grayling Baptist Church following interment at 1:30 pm.
