Jay Lewis Stephan, Jr. passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014. Jay was born in Grayling, MI to Jay Stephan and Margaret Case on February 18, 1951. This day, we have lost a grand Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Nephew, Uncle, Cousin and friend. Jay has left us all with an emptiness but will always be looking over us and guiding us through each day. He was a man of conviction. Standing for what he believed in, independent and outspoken. He held his family and friends very close. Like a watch dog looking over his flock, trying to keep them safe. Growing up as a boy he thought his dad was the greatest fly fisherman and river man in the area (an opinion held by many). He built the best riverboats that could be had and that tradition is still carried on by his family. Jay took his dad on his last fishing trip and even though he died while they were on the river that day, he wouldn't have had it any other way. He's there now, with his father and brother fishing together again. Though his death was untimely, we all have the comfort of knowing a truly great man. Tight lines to you Jay. Rest in peace. Jay is survived by his wife Shelley Stephan; daughter Jessica Pike and grandsons Hayden and Corbin Pike and daughter Rebecca Stephan; mother Margaret Case; siblings Doug Stephan, Cheryl (Billy) Lowes, Teresa (Phil) Romaniak, Billy Jo (Eds) Miller, Lisa (Joe) Stephan, and Tim (Lisa) Stephan; Jay's uncle Ted; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Jay Lewis Stephan and brother Steven Stephan. There will be a get together planned for a future date. Condolences may be expressed at sorensonlockwood.com. Arrangements entrusted to Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
