Janet Lynn Pahssen

April 23, 1947 — December 12, 2017

Janet Lynn Pahssen peacefully departed this world, and was called to heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Janet's last breaths were taken with her loving husband Paul and son Jeffrey right beside her on December 12th, 2017 at their home in Grayling Michigan. Janet fought an incredibly courageous battle against Colon Cancer for 10 ½ years. Throughout that time, she never lost her wonderful spirit and vivacious exuberance for life. Janet was born April 23, 1947 to Paul H. and Ruth M. Schneider in Saginaw, Michigan. Janet graduated from Arthur Hill High School and Western Michigan University. In 1968, she met the love of her life, Paul G. Pahssen, and married him in 1969. Janet taught 5th grade in Grand Ledge for five years. In 1974, she moved to Grayling, a community she would grow to love for the rest of her life. She had two children, Jeffrey Paul and Jennifer Lynn, who were the light of her life, her pride and joy! Janet taught fifth grade in Grayling from 1984 until 2003. She loved teaching, and made a difference in the lives of her students every day. After retirement, she and Paul had an antique business, and enjoyed travelling around Northern Michigan. She loved her home in the forest in Grayling, where she would cook and entertain, especially with family, friends, and her children's friends. She always looked forward to special occasions with family, whether fall color tours, birthdays, or the holidays. She loved being near water and trees. Her many passions included: antiques, parties, poetry, plays, golf, playing games, and sharing her favorite quotations. Janet was an inspiration to all who know her, with her courage, her faith, her positive outlook, and her hope throughout her entire life. Janet's beautiful smile and vitality was contagious to be around. She always thought of others first, and gave of her time and love to everyone without hesitation. She will be remembered for making the world a much better place with her deeply loving ways. Janet was preceded in death by her father Paul H. Schneider and granddaughter Elizabeth M. Brown. Janet is survived by her husband of 48 years, Paul G. Pahssen; her son, Jeffrey P. Pahssen; her daughter, Jennifer L. Brown and her husband Anthony J. Brown; her mother, Ruth M. Schneider; her sister Linda M. Tomandl and her husband Terry; her nieces Melissa M. Colon, and Amanda L. Parker and her husband Jeff; many cousins, nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in law. Hope Lutheran Church in Grayling at 11:00am. A pre-service visitation is planned at 10:00am. Memorials may be sent to University of Michigan Cancer Center or Mt. Hope Lutheran Church.
