James A Sampsel, 68, of Grayling passed away on Wednesday June 29, 2011 at his home surrounded by family and friends after a courageous fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). James was born in Ypsilanti, MI on January 16, 1943, the son of the late William D. and Marguerite (Aubrey) Sampsel. James graduated from Grayling High School in 1961. He served in the US Army as a SP5 between 1964 to 1966 during the Vietnam War. James married the former Glenda Schofield on February 22, 1976 in Grayling. He worked at Bear Archery and then at AJD Forest Products from which he retired. James was very family oriented and an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. James is survived by his wife Glenda of 35 years/ Daughters: Michelle (Shawn) Paul of Grayling, MI. Melissa Sampsel of Grayling, MI. Grandson - Dakota Sampsel. Sisters: Carolyn (Les) Mead of Higgins Lake Nancy (Ron) Derrico of California., Vera (Ernie) Hatfield of Grayling, MI., Anna Raymond of Higgins Lake, MI. Aunt - Sheba Haight of Higgins Lake. Visitation will be held on Friday July 1, 2011 between 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. Funeral Service at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Saturday July 2nd, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Brandon Rogers officiating. Interment will be at Beaver Creek Twp. Cemetery Grayling, MI.
