James Edward Powers, D.D.S.,F.A.G.D., 81, of Grayling, passed away on June 9, 2016. James was born on August 25, 1934 in Lapeer, Michigan to the late James and Frances (June) Powers. He graduated from University of Michigan Dental School and believed that there was no other football team than the University of Michigan Wolverines. James raised his family with first wife Margaret (Seelye) Powers in Lapeer where he also maintained a private dental practice for over 30 years. After retirement, he moved to Grayling and pursued his love for fly fishing. A committed environmental conservationist, James served as president of the Upper Manistee River Association (UMRA) for many years and was also belonged to Trout Unlimited and Grayling Rotary. James is survived by his children Jayme Powers of Seattle, Washington; Megan Powers of Chicago, Illinois; Kristin Wright; and Jeremiah Bootz; his former wife Teri Powers of Grayling; and brother Robert Powers of Ohio. James is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Jennifer Jo; a son Michael James; and two infant children, Michelle and James Patrick. A Gathering of Family, Friends, and Fellow Fishermen to Remember James Powers will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016 between 5p and 9p at Grayling Country Club, 2122 S. I-75 Business Loop, Grayling, MI 49738.
