James Ronald Miller, 56, of Beaver Creek Twp. passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Munson Hospital in Traverse City.
James was born July 3, 1964 in Manistique, MI to Leo and Judith (Moore) Miller. He grew up in Hamtramck, MI where he worked as a paperboy. He worked as a volunteer firefighter in Beaver Creek Twp. from 1982 until 1987. In February of 1986, he joined the Army reserves and was in the 1438th Transportation Division in Traverse City. He was transferred to the Army National Guard stationed in Camp Grayling. He worked at Weyerhauser for 32 years, retiring in August of 2019. He loved hunting, fishing, and trapping. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, each of whom had their special thing with Grandpa. He had a small hobby farm and loved his animals. He recently bought a small travel trailer and recently started camping more. On cool evenings, he and Billie Jo would get Dairy Queen and go for a ride, listening to classic rock.
James is survived by his wife, Billie Jo; children, James Miller and Jennifer Miller; grandchildren, Lealon, Oakleigh, Julian, Victoria, Aiden, and Dawson; mother-in-law, Betty Hawley; sisters, Tammy Sims, Bridgette Anderson, and Tracy Woodcock; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. James was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Judith.
Visitation will be Monday, August 3, 2020 from 11-12 pm at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place at noon with Pastor Gary Wojdan officiating. Interment will follow at Beaver Creek Cemetery.
