James Robert Kitchen, 83, of Frederic, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, peacefully with special thanks for the loving support of Jessica and Jay Ruddy. Jim was born on October 10, 1932 in Lansing, Michigan to Kirtland and Racheal (Filkins) Kitchen. He served in the Korean War in US Air Force in communications as a crypt operator. Jim was very patriotic and was a lifelong active member of the American Legion. He retired from Camp Grayling in 1992 where he worked as a maintenance supervisor. Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved the Detroit Tigers and traveled many times to Lakeland, Florida for their spring training. Jim enjoyed talking about all sports and their players and Korean War Stories. He was married on September 26, 1981 in Flushing, Michigan to the former Edna Mae (Dunkley) Hurst. Survived by his wife Edna of 34 years. Children: "Moose" Kitchen, Denise Kitchen, Jeff (Laura) Hurst, Richard (Darci) Hurst, and Dana (Don) Wilcox; 8 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; and a special nephew, Kirt Kitchen. Preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa; son, Willie Hurst; grandson, Ryan Hurst; and brother, Marty Kitchen. Visitation will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Thursday, July 7, 2016 between 1-7 p,m. Funeral Service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, July 8, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour before service.
