Mr. Ivor Thayer, Sr., 80, of Grayling passed away on Thursday, December 6th, 2007. Ivor was born in Hemlock, Michigan on December 30, 1926, the son of the late Edward and Ada (Barber) Thayer. He married the former Betty Bowler on September 26, 1953 in Germfask, Michigan. Ivor started working in his early teens. He got his first bike with the money from his first job. He began working in the woods and sawmills. He was an edgerman in the sawmill in Newberry, Michigan for many years. He drove tractor and horses in woods skidding logs. Ivor and his wife also owned a gas station in Mio, Michigan from 1968 to 1977. They sold out and put a restaurant in Atlanta, Michiigan. Ike not liking the restaurant work, decided to sell. The restaurant is still operating. They moved to Marquette, Michigan where Ike had to retire from the Chevrolet Garage due to a heart attack. Ivor did do some deer hunting when he was younger. Ivor learned to play the mouth organ and guitar at the early age of four. His greatest love was singing and playing his guitar. He loved to travel, and most of all, loved his family . Ike & Betty were married for 53 years before she preceded him in death in July 2007. Ivor is survived by Son:Ivor (Dawn)Thayer Jr. of Ohio. Daughters: Betty Handrich of Grayling, MI Linda LaTourneau of Gwinn, MI Grandchildren:Deana (Les) Schrade, Jesse LaTourneau, Jeremiah Thayer, Uriah (Sarah) Thayer Brother: Edward (Iris) Thayer of Battle Creek, MI. Several nieces and nephews, brother-in-laws, and sister-in-laws. Visitation will be held on Monday December 10, 2007 between 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Barnett officiating. Interment will be at West Lakefield Township Cemetery in Germfask, MI. in Spring 2008.
