Iris Corr (previous LaChappelle) (Madsen)

September 15, 1929 — September 3, 2011

Iris Corr, 81, of Grayling passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2011, at her home on the banks of the AuSable River in Grayling Township surrounded by her family. Iris was born in Grayling on September 15, 1929, the daughter of the late Clare A. and Elma M. (McDonald) Madsen. Iris was a life-long resident of Grayling. She graduated from Grayling High School in 1947 and attended Central Michigan University. She retired in 1977 from her ownership of the DeLuxe Music Co and in the 1990s as the owner of Madsen's Riverside Pines. She was well known locally for her paintings on old sawmill blades and particularly liked porcelain china painting. Iris was a member of the Grayling Eagle's Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary and was honored by the Grayling Youth Booster Club in 1980 as the Outstanding Board Member of the Year. Her culinary wonders were continually called upon by those organizations for fund raisers and memorials. She enjoyed spending as much time as possible with family and friends, traveled much of the lower United States, Alaska and Canada, and spent many winters in Florida. Iris is survived by her daughter Monica Ashton of Grayling, sons Wayne (Linda) LaChappelle of Healy, Alaska, Clare (Carol) LaChappelle of Oviedo, Florida, Michael (Diane) LaChappelle of Fife Lake, Michigan, Dan LaChappelle of Colorado Springs, Colorado, daughter Joelyn (Jim) Krutsch of Mishawaka, Indiana, step-son Richard (Judy) LaChappelle of Middleberg, Florida, step-daughters Janet (Campbell) LaGrow of Crescent City, Florida, Linda (LaChappelle) Daly of Middleberg, Florida and brother Clare "Skip" (Gail) Madsen of Grayling. Iris is also survived by 23 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. Iris was preceded in death by husbands William H. LaChappelle in 1973 and John B. Corr in 1989. There will be no immediate service, but a memorial gathering and celebration of life will be scheduled at a future time when all family members can be present. Condolences may be sent to the family through the Sorenson-Lockwood unreal Home in Grayling. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the AuSable Valley Animal Shelter or Devereaux Memorial Library, designated for large print books.
