Ira Paul Wells, 89, of Maple Forest Township passed away on Tuesday December 18, 2012. Ira was born in Taylor Township, MI on August 28, 1923, a son of the late Effie (Wager) and Frank Wells. He was one of seven children. All brothers and sisters have preceded him in death. He joined the US Army in March 1943, served in Europe and Africa, was discharged in 1945. Ira married the former Helen Dasho on May 20,1950 in Wyandotte, Michigan, she preceded him in death in 2008 after 58 years of marriage. He owned and operate Southgate Hardware for 30 years. After moving north in 1977, he started Maple Forest Small Engine Repair. Ira was an avid jigsaw puzzle maker and worked on them up until a few months ago. He also loved to sing and was always humming some kind of song. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Gaylord. Survived by: Daughters: Barbara (Larry) Domcik of Maple Forest Twp., Renee (Vince) Agius of New Boston, Paula (Kenneth) Green of New Boston, Peggy (Brian) Box of Whitmore Lake; Grandchildren: Timothy Domcik, Phillip & Michael Spriggs, Sara, Rachel, & Jacob Box; Great grandson: Alex Soyko; Several nieces & nephews. A memorial service will be held Saturday January 19, 2013 at 12:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Gaylord, MI. Memorial contributions may be directed to Crawford County Commission on Aging 308 Lawndale Grayling, Michigan in Ira's memory. Ira's family wishes to especially thank Grayling Nursing & Rehabilitation Community and Hilltop Manor in Roscommon for taking great care of Ira the last 14 months of his life.
