Howard Jarvis, 78, of Grayling passed away on Friday, September 25th, 2009. Howard was born in Detroit, MI on September 18, 1931, the son of the late Walter Francis and Ida Louella (Demmons) Jarvis. He served in the U.S. Navy as a fire control tech during the Korean Conflict on the USS Laffey and USS Everglades. He married the former Darlene Rocco on August 30, 1958 in Albion, MI Howard graduated from Wayne State University in 1959 with a Bachelors in Mortuary Science and became licensed as a Funeral Director in the State of Michigan. He retired in 1991, after having worked as parts manager at Rinke Pontiac, Inc. and Wilburn Buick. . He and Darlene moved to Grayling permanently upon retirement. He really enjoyed living in the home he and Darlene built on the AuSable River and watching the deer and other wildlife that came into their yard. Howard loved to travel both in the US and abroad. They belonged to a local "Jayco Club", "Greater Bay Jays", "Jayco Jafari International Travel Club", and traveled many miles in their Jayco 5th wheel after retiring. He had been a member of Grayling Lions Club, Coffee table gang at Goodales, was an avid sports fan. Survived by his wife Darlene of 51 years Brother: Walter Jarvis Sisters in law: Toni and Connie Jarvis Brothers and sisters in laws: Arnold & Phyllis Rocco, and Denny & Jan Rocco. Many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Brothers: Robert F. and Tom E. Jarvis, Mother in law and father in law: Earl and June Rocco. Memorial Service will be held at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home on Saturday October 3, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Elder Ann Doty officiating.
