Helen Shirley Proulx, 91, of Grayling passed away on Saturday August 31, 2013. Helen was born in Grayling, MI on March 6, 1922, a daughter of the late Elizabeth (Hislop) and James Edward Kellogg. Helen was the 16th child out of 17 born to Elizabeth and James Kellogg and was the last surviving child. She grew up on the Kellogg Homestead in Lovells. She was a graduate of Frederic High School. She was married to Alfred Proulx on May 16, 1942 in Detroit. They were married at for 43 years before he preceded her in death in 1986. Helen enjoyed gardening, watching birds, making baskets, and spending time with her grandchildren. Survived by: Daughters: Shirley (Neil) Longworth of Lovells Barb Proulx of Grayling Sons: Robert (Catherine) Proulx of Byron, MI William (Nancy) Proulx of Mesa AZ/ 8 Grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Graveside Service will be held at Lovells Township Cemetery on Saturday, September 7th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. All are invited to gather at the Kellogg Homestead for a luncheon immediately following the service. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, consideration would be given for donation to Kellogg Homestead Fund that will be set up to maintain the Kellogg Homestead or AuSable Valley Animal Shelter.
