Gloria Anne Alef, 80, of Grayling, died Saturday, March 12, 2011 at her Lake Margarethe home. Gloria was the daughter of Charles and Annette (Davis) Moore. She was a lifelong Grayling resident. She was raised at Lake Margarethe, and was proud to swim across the lake as a young girl. Gloria attended Leelanau School for Girls and graduated from Grayling High School in 1948. She was also a graduate of Alma College, and she attended the Kirtland College Law Enforcement program. She was a member of Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was also a volunteer with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, she worked for radio station WGRY as a weather announcer and she had been on the Grayling Winter Sports Queens Court. On January 19, 1952, Gloria married John H. "Jack" Alef Sr. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2000. Surviving are daughters, Mary (Brian Dombrowski) Alef-Neal and Jennifer (Ken) Krausman; sons, John (Cheryl) Alef, Jim (Patty) Alef and Dan Alef; 6 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and her pets, Chelsea and Trooper. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at 1:00pm at the Michelson Memorial United Methodist Church where friends may visit with the family from 11:00am-1:00pm. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Crawford County Animal Shelter. Arrangements are being handled by the Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home.
