Glenda Ann Jacobs, 69, of Grayling passed away on Wednesday June 19, 2012. Glenda was born in Valdesta, GA on October 17, 1942, a daughter of Neta Inez (Odum) Duncan and the late Donald Briggs. She married Kenneth Jacobs on September 14, 1963, they were married in Bay City, MI. they were married for 43 years before Kenneth preceded her in death in 2007. Glenda graduated from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in Saginaw in 1963. She later became licensed as a Nursing Home Administrator, became a Certified Gerontological Nurse, and attended the University of Minnesota in the Patient Care Administration Program. From 1963 to 1973, Glenda worked various Charge Nurse positions at St. Mary's Hospital and Mercy Hospital in the Bay City/Saginaw Area. Between 1974 to 1982 Glenda lived in the Newberry area and worked at Helen Newberry Joy Hospital, Lakefield Nursing Home, and Newberry Regional Mental Health Center. Glenda moved to Grayling in 1982 and began her career at Mercy Hospital and held administrative positions at the hospital and Mercy Manor, with her last position being Director of Senior Services before retiring in 2006. Glenda was involved in several professional organizations at local, state and national levels to include: Junior Achievement Leader, Organizer of Hospice of Crawford County, Volunteer and board member at River House, Served on state board Michigan Organization of Nurse Executives, National Association of Gerontological Nurses, Michigan Hospital Association, Medical Control Board (Roscommon County), Instructor for EMS students, Michigan Rural Aging Institute board member, and Community Ethics Committee. Glenda enjoyed volunteer speaking engagements for elderly groups, and in her spare time enjoyed knitting, reading turn of the century novels, and music Survived by: Mother Inez Duncan of Grayling Sons: Mark K. (Cheryl) Jacobs, of Grayling, MI; Brian K. (Vicki) Jacobs, of Grayling, MI; Daughter: Kimberly A (Clark) Allen, of Grayling, MI; Grandchildren: Brandon and Shantina Jacobs, Aleisha Hoover, Nicholas Jacobs, Jakob Hoover, Zack Allen Great granddaughter: Sophia Hatfield Sister: Karen (David) Maxwell, of West Branch, MI. Brothers: Kenneth (Carol) Briggs, of Roscommon, MI; Gerald (Doreen) Briggs, of Bay City, MI; Numerous nephews. Preceded in death by her father Donald Briggs, husband Kenneth, and step father Edward Duncan. Visitation will be held on Thursday June 21, 2012 between 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. . Visitation will be held prior to funeral beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday June 22, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Grayling, MI, at 12:00 noon on Friday, June 22nd, 2012 with Rev. James Doherty officiating.
