Douglas Lee McMurtrie

Douglas Lee McMurtrie, 71, of Grayling, passed away peacefully at home, by his side were his wife Carlene and close friends. Doug was born and raised in Parma, MI. He was the youngest Son of Hoyle and Agnus McMurtrie. He moved to Grayling in the 1990's. He was a retired Lieutenant Officer from Jackson State Prison. Doug was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, he loved the brotherhood of the organization. Through the years, Doug made many wonderful and dear friends. He also loved Nascar, fishing and being on the lake with his pontoon. Doug had a natural knack for gardening and tending to his flower beds, especially his red Geraniums. Doug was a proud Veteran, serving in the Army during the Vietnam Era. He was proud of the American Flag, and displayed it prominently. Survived by his wife Carlene, son Gary, daughter Ellen, brothers Calvin and Wesley, sister Janet, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by brother Jean and sister Gloria. Doug will be cremated, and a Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home in Grayling, Michigan. Luncheon to follow at the Kalkaska Eagles Club.
