Dorothy Alice Tetreau (Tucker)

June 24, 1917 — January 7, 2011

Dorothy Alice Tucker Tetreau, 93 years young Dorothy Alice Tucker Tetreau, 93, a seven-year resident of the formerly called "Michigan Christian Home" in Grand Rapids peacefully passed into eternity 4:29 p.m. January 7, 2011 from the Health Care Center. She was lovingly cared for by the staff and her extended family. A couple of weeks before her death she suffered a stroke but still entertained staff, family, and friends with her one-line comebacks. Dorothy was very quick-witted. Dorothy Alice was born June 24, 1917 in Carsonville, Michigan to Charles Adelbert and Mary Elizabeth Tucker. She was number four of five children: Cecil, Ralph, Edwin, Dorothy, and Grace. Of her siblings, she is only survived by Grace Adeliah Tucker (the late Clayton) Jackson. She was married to Joshua Charles Tetreau January 1, 1937 in Warren, Michigan. She is survived by their four children: Marilyn Joyce (Phil) Townley of Grayling, Michigan (and of Sebring, Florida in the winter months); Jerry Charles (Beulah, aka "Kit") Tetreau of Mesa, Arizona; Mary Lu (Charles) Steiner of Kentwood, Michigan; and Paul Mark (Jill) Tetreau of Prescott, Arizona. She is survived by five foster "Hagle" children: Raymond, Betty Ann, Linda, Glen, and Dave. Dorothy is also survived by two sisters-in-law, many nephews, nieces, grand children and great grand children. Dorothy was graduated from Bad Axe High School in 1934 and the Ann Rose Moran School of cosmetology in Flint, Michigan. She was an excellent hair stylist; she used that skill everywhere she went. She loved "doing hair." Dorothy was first of all a house wife, a mother to three "families" (the original Tetreau 4, the Hagle 5, and many "children in their 80s and 90s at the Sunshine Lodge, Maranatha Baptist Village in Sebring, Florida). She was also a salesclerk, a skilled lettering artist, and a vocalist. She loved to sing with her daughters and in church choirs. In 1960 she was chosen to receive the well-deserved Mother of the Year Award by WLEW radio station in Bad Axe, Michigan. Final services will be held at the Calvary Baptist Church, 6504 East State Highway 72 in Grayling, Michigan on Sunday, January 16. Family and friends are invited to attend the 9:30 Sunday School hour, the 10:30 morning worship service, and a 12:00 o'clock noon luncheon at the church. There will be a viewing from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. and the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. A private internment will be held later. Funeral arrangements are being held by the Sorenson Lockwood Funeral Home at 1108 N. Down River Road Grayling, Michigan. Memorial gifts may be made to the benevolence fund of Calvary Baptist Church.
