Dorothy Marie Bassett, 93, of Grayling, MI passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2013. Dorothy was born in Harbor Springs, MI on July 2, 1920, the daughter of the late Ollie Mae (Clark) and John Andrew Smith. She married James F Bassett on September 9, 1939 in Beulah, Michigan. They were married for 56 years before he preceded her in death on February 6, 1996. She and her husband James owned Jim and Dot's Truck Stop, later named Jim's Party Store in Beaver Creek Township. Survived by: Daughter: Dianna (Richard) Jones, of Alpena; Son: James G. (Tina) Bassett, of Grayling; Son in law: Floyd Jack Mayhew of Florida Grandchildren: Sara Bassett, Lisa (Garth) Gapske, Doug and Steve (Terri) Maveal, Chris and Scott Mayhew. Great grandchildren: Joel and Grant Gapske, Caroline, Zachary, Corey, and Brandon Mayhew. Brother: Perry (Connie) Ely of Beulah Preceded in death by her husband James and daughter Nancy Mayhew. Visitation will be held on Friday July 26, 2013 between 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Sorenson-Lockwood Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held at Mt. Hope Lutheran of Grayling at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 27th, 2013. Interment will be at Lakeside Cemetery, in Harbor Springs, MI.
